You've already seen what happens to the cheap ones. The vinyl pair that warped in the afternoon sun. The composite set that swelled after one winter. The pine shutters you repainted, then repainted again, and now they just look tired. Everyone in the neighborhood is running the same math — and it's the reason half of them just took their shutters down and gave up.
We're not here to talk you out of that. If you're OK replacing shutters every 5–7 years, the big-box plastic aisle is cheaper than what we do. Nothing wrong with that — but it's not the conversation we're having on this page.

What You're Actually Looking At.
Tongue-and-groove, rough-head-milled Western Red Cedar at a true 7/8" thickness — milled from Western Red Cedar decking boards at our Tennessee mill. The batten strips are Western Red Cedar too. No pine core. No MDF sneak-in. No veneer. The board you see is the board all the way through.
We're only offering three configurations on this style, and we're picky about that on purpose: a 3-battenversion (that's the set you see in the photos on this page), a 2-batten version for a lighter visual footprint, and a smoothversion with no battens at all. Every one of them is stained. We don't sell unfinished board-and-batten — because unfinished cedar on the side of your house is a problem in 18 months, and we're not in the business of selling you a problem.

Cleaner lines. Same real cedar.
Two horizontal Western Red Cedar batten strips — top and bottom. A lighter visual footprint for homes with busier trim, shorter windows, or a more modern farmhouse look.
Smooth (No Battens)
Tongue-and-groove field only.
Same true 7/8" tongue-and-groove Western Red Cedar boards — without the batten strips. A quiet, modern profile that lets the wood grain and stain color do all the talking.

Why We Don't Sell Unfinished
Unfinished cedar on the outside of your house turns gray in about 18 months, and if you don't get stain on it before the first rainy season, you're already fighting uphill. We'd rather not ship you a problem. If you have a very specific finish in mind we can't match from our six EXPERT colors, call us first— that's a conversation, not a checkbox.
