One Style, Three Configurations

Cedar Republic specializes exclusively in board and batten shutters — the classic American exterior style built from wide vertical boards and horizontal battens. The reason we don't try to be everything to everyone: board and batten is what we build best, and it fits more American home styles than any other shutter design. Within board and batten, you choose between three batten configurations: 3-batten, 2-batten, and smooth.

3-Batten: Maximum Visual Weight

Three horizontal battens give the shutter its most traditional, substantial look. The additional batten adds structural rigidity and creates the boldest shadow lines on the facade. Best for larger windows, taller shutters, and homes with strong architectural presence — farmhouses, craftsman bungalows, and rustic builds where you want the shutters to be seen.

2-Batten: The Versatile Classic

Two battens — one near the top, one near the bottom — is the most common board and batten configuration. It reads as traditional and grounded without overwhelming smaller windows. Works equally well on modern farmhouses, cottages, and suburban homes. If you're not sure which configuration fits your windows, this is the safest choice.

Smooth: Clean and Contemporary

The smooth configuration removes the front battens entirely, leaving flat vertical boards for a clean, minimal profile. The shutter retains the board and batten construction on the back for structural integrity but presents a sleek face. Best for modern, transitional, or Scandinavian-influenced homes where you want the cedar texture and color without the rustic batten lines.
